5-HTP 50 mg - Griffonia simplicifolia
I - Product information:
- Migraine and chronic headaches
- Depression and anxiety
- Inhibits appetite in people who want to lose weight
II - Description:
5-HTP is an amino acid that our body produces from tryptophan, another amino acid found in protein foods (meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, legumes and nuts). Once absorbed, 5-HTP transforms into serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays an essential role in regulating mood, appetite and sleep. Because it acts on serotonin production, many consider 5-HTP as a natural alternative to antidepressants with a
similar efficacy but without the side effects of these antidepressants.
III - Contraindications:
Some sources recommend choosing the lowest dosage, not extending treatments unduly, and taking time off as often as possible, not least because the body can develop a tolerance to the effects of 5-HTP. It was noted that, in Down's syndrome, prolonged treatment with 5-HTP caused episodes of epileptic seizures in 15% of patients. 5-HTP can cause drowsiness.
IV - Drug interaction:
IMAO antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs, beta blockers and birth control pills may increase the concentration of serotonin in the brain and thus increase the effects of 5-HTP. Excess serotonin in the brain can disrupt the chemical balance of the central nervous system and cause serotonin syndrome, which in its severe form can be life-threatening.
